If you are a veteran or if you are related to a veteran make sure you find out what benefits you may be eligible to receive. For instance, parents of veterans who served during a war may be eligible for benefits. This is something people often do not realize. Also, spouses of veterans who served during a war (even if they were not in a war zone) should make sure they are getting whatever benefits they are entitled to receive. There is no need to schedule an appointment, just show up between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. Weekly activities include: writing (waiting list), computer class, tai chi, quilting, card club, etc. Call 413-268-8407 or 413-268-8410 to register.

Williamsburg Historical Society Spring Meeting

Tuesday the 13th of May.
Williamsburg Grange Hall
Potluck supper at 6:30. PM
Program at 7:30 - "His Own Proper Negro Slave" a talk by Erick Weber, Williamsburg Historical Commission
In the autumn of 1766, Amos Newport filed a lawsuit against the Hatfield gentleman who had held him in bondage for nearly forty years, alleging false imprisonment. Amos asserted that he was a free man and not a slave. Eric Weber will tell the fascinating, sadly incomplete, and frequently puzzling story of Amos' courageous legal battle and the subsequent events that linked his family's history to Williamsburg, as well as to other places in the Pioneer Valley and farther afield.

Donate Books at the Williamsburg Transfer Station

Looking to give your books to a good cause? The town of Williamsburg has partnered with Got Books to place a drop-off donation and reuse container for residents, businesses, schools, libraries, and other groups who wish to contribute books they no longer have a use for. The bin will also accept CDs, DVDs, videos and audio books.
The Got Books donation container is conveniently located at the Williamsburg Transfer Station on 27 Mountain Street. The container is available for donations from all residents every Wednesday and Saturday from 9:00am-4:00pm.
Choose to reuse! Donating books is a great way to keep them out of the waste stream and give them a new life with someone who will treasure them as you once did.
In addition to helping divert waste from landfills, many of these donated goods will be sold in book sales to benefit local nonprofit groups.
About Got Books?
Got Books is a used book seller and professional fundraiser dedicated to keeping books out of the trash. Got Books raises money for local charities and nonprofit groups by hosting weekly Charity Book Sales at their warehouse located at 35 Concord Street in North Reading MA. Book donations are collected through their free home pick-up service and through books deposited at one of their 200 plus book-donation bins placed throughout New England.
For more information about Got Books visit www.GotBooks.com or call 978-664-6555.
